Katie Turinski is an award-winning filmmaker based in New York City. For nearly 20 years her work has spanned multiple industries, with editing credits including the Oscars® Shortlisted Netflix Original THE SPEED CUBERS, multiple Super Bowl commercial campaigns, and the award-winning documentary feature JESSZILLA.

Katie is represented for commercial editorial by EXILE (Partner + Editor), where her clients include Facebook, Google, Nike, Coca-Cola, Ford, Sony, Samsung, Delta and Toyota, among others. Prior to joining EXILE, Katie spent 9 years at Joint, Wieden+Kennedy’s boutique post house. Both environments have afforded her the opportunity to collaborate with world-renowned talent within the advertising industry, and allowed her to continually sharpen her storytelling skills.

Her documentary work varies in subject matter, but shares common themes including inclusivity, courage, acceptance, and humor. As a director as well as editor, she seeks to tell heartfelt stories about under-represented communities. Her feature documentary SISSYBOY (Director/Editor) premiered at SXSW, and features a drag queen performance art troupe in Portland, OR during their final year of performances. Her award-winning short SOCK GUYS (Director/Editor) focuses on a young business owner with Down Syndrome whose mission is “spreading happiness”. She is currently in production on a new project featuring a differently-abled drum line as they work to rebuild after the Covid-19 pandemic.

She served on AICP’s Curatorial Committee for the 2019 and 2021 awards shows, selecting commercials to be preserved in the MoMA Department of Film’s permanent archives. She is a featured editor on Free The Work, and was a Contributing Editor for the 2015 Sundance Institute Documentary Edit and Story Lab. In 2009, Katie was selected as one of twelve filmmakers to participate in a 10-day documentary intensive led by director Doug Pray. Her passion for arts mentorship has led her to work as a filmmaking instructor at Camp Caldera, an arts-based summer camp for underserved youth founded by Dan Wieden, as well as a mentor for AICE’s PrePro mentorship program. In addition to editing and directing, Katie loves voice acting and is a member of SAG-AFTRA.

Katie lives in New York City with her husband and their beloved dog, Barnaby.
